Hi and welcome to our junior page!
There are loads of juniors at the Bowmen of Skelmersdale, both lads and girls between the ages of 8 and 18 who all love archery. We all get along really well, helping each other and having a laugh. We also have a big say in how the club is run, so our opinions are always listened to, and if we have a particular talent, then it’s never wasted. Our club newsletter is written by junior members, and we organise loads of social events too. We organise darchery and cricket nights, all done using bows, fancy dress and balloon shoots, room 101 nights, where we bring in a picture of something that really annoys us to shoot at, and our annual Ferrari shoot, with a Ferrari for the winner!
Loads of juniors also compete in competitions, both locally and nationally, so we are serious competitors too. This year lots of our members went to the junior indoor and outdoor nationals and competed with some of the best archers in the country. Many of our members are either in the Lancashire team already, or go to training in the hope that they will be picked next year, and members of all ages often pick up medals in target archery and many other types of shooting too.
The Bowmen of Skelmersdale is a really good club for young people, and for families too, so anybody can come along and have a go. People shoot all different kinds of bows, including longbows, recurves and compounds, and if we want to try out new equipment, we just ask. Our coaches are really good, and we even have a junior coach to work with junior members when they first join.
We all have a great time, and loads of fun, so if you want to come and have a go, don’t be shy, its fun, and a good way to make new friends.
